Public Health Nurse

The health care nurse course is elective means chosen by student rather than compulsory. Applicants are required to take designated subjects. Once you acquire sufficient credits, you will be eligible to sit the national health care nurse examination.


Studying in the Faculty of Health Care and Nursing

All applicants in our faculty can register for the public health nurse course.

1st and 2nd Years

Those who choose the public health nurse course must obtain credits in "Law and Life (Japanese Constitution)" in their 1st and 2nd years.

3rd and 4th Years

In the 3rd and 4th years, students must obtain credits in a selection of lectures such as "Regional Health Activity Theory" and "School Health," and practical classes such as "Regional Diagnosis Training" and "Public Health Nursing Practice."
Students who obtain sufficient credits will be eligible to sit the national public health nurse examination when they graduate.

Main Occupations

Public health nurses provide health guidance such as group checkups and health counseling at schools, companies, public health centers, etc. They see a wide range of people, from infants to the elderly.
Their main workplaces are municipal health centers, companies, schools, and visiting nursing stations.
They are active throughout the region. Therefore, in addition to nursing skills, public health nurses are required to have the ability to manage health by considering the characteristics of the area, the policies of each local government, etc.
